The artist and his wife-to-be built this stone heart  under a huge oak,  in 1979. They have been happily married for over 35 years, and suggest that you will have the same good fortune if married at this spot.
The heart ♥ is of course, the prevalent symbol representing love. But its use in the wedding ceremony had another significance for the artist and his wife. Before the ceremony, the bride and groom each stood somewhat separate from one another, each in a lobe of the heart. But after exchanging vows, they faced the guests and walked out together as one, just as the separate lobes of the heart merge together at its point.
